Matthew 25:7-10
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
And the door was shut....
That small sentence packs a multitude of profoundness. Not only does it stop me in my tracks, but it also brings a holy fear to my soul.
Holy fear is a fear that does not drive us away from the Lord but to the Lord. To fear God is to hallow him which is defined as " to respect greatly." We take on His heart when we fear God. We hate what He hates and love what He loves.
Period.
Over the last several months one of my prayers have been asking my Jesus to teach me to keep my "lamp" full. I was uncertain on how to accomplish this task, making it so much harder than what the reality is. I allowed my lack of understanding of the metaphor of the lamp to become a situation of confusion. He is not the author of confusion, our flesh is.
And the simplicity of how to keep my/our lamp full...…
Maintaining a close relationship with the Lord.
It's daily conversations.
It's diving into His word and absorbing.
It's worshiping.
It's in the silent times waiting to hear His voice.
It's trusting Him.
It's believing Him and all that He is.
It's acknowledging Him in ALL things.
It's loving what He loves and hating what He hates.
I do not want to be as the virgins in the parable who went to buy oil and have the door shut upon my return.
Over the last few years, He has been giving us instructions on preparedness.
On keeping our lamps full.
Trusting Him.
Walking in obedience to His word.
And to be ready to go with our bride groom.
In times I do not fully understand all in which I am being told and I fall short....
I will continue to trust and obey; thankful my lamp is full.
